Overview
Bike Archive is a free, non-commercial reference database operated by Hank Bicycle Company, LLC, a limited liability company organized in the State of Utah, USA, which is responsible for the information described below. You can browse the site, search for bicycles, and use the calculators without an account. An optional account lets you save results, keep a history, comment, and contribute.
We collect only what the site needs to work. We don't show ads, we don't sell or rent personal information, and we don't build marketing profiles.
Information we collect
When you browse (no account)
- Server logs. Our hosting automatically logs standard request data: IP address, requested URL, timestamp, user agent, and referrer. We use it only for debugging, security, and abuse prevention.
- Page counts. We count how many times each page, bike, and bolt is viewed per day, to show what's popular. These counts are stored without any information about who viewed the page.
- Analytics. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which doesn't use cookies or track individual visitors across sites.
When you create an account
- Sign-in details. Your email address and password. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and stored only in hashed form; we never see them.
- Profile. Your username and display name, plus anything optional you choose to add, such as your first and last name, phone number, website, or professional credentials (for example, a mechanic certification).
- Settings. Preferences such as theme, profile visibility, and calculator defaults.
When you use the site signed in
- History. The bikes, searches, and manuals you view, so you can find them again. You can remove items or clear your whole history from your account at any time.
- Saved items. Calculator results and bikes you save or share with an organization.
- Contributions. Comments, bolt reviews, corrections, and bike submissions you post.
- Organizations. The organizations you belong to, your role, and invitations you send or accept.
When you email us
If you email us (for corrections, contact, or removal requests), we keep that correspondence only as long as needed to deal with it.
What other people can see
Your username, display name, profile page, comments, bolt reviews, and any credentials marked public are visible to everyone. Your email address, phone number, history, saved items, and settings are private. Bikes you share with an organization are visible to its members.
How we use information
- To run the site and the features you use, such as history, saved results, and organizations
- To send account emails, such as address confirmations, password resets, and organization invitations
- To keep the site secure and moderate abuse
- To understand, in aggregate, which pages and tools are useful
Cookies and browser storage
Visitors who aren't signed in get no cookies. When you sign in, the site sets one strictly necessary,
HTTP-only session cookie (bikearchive.sid) that keeps you signed in for up to 30 days. It isn't
used for tracking.
The site also keeps a few small conveniences in your browser's local storage, such as a cached list of recently viewed bikes and your dashboard layout. They stay on your device. Because the site uses no advertising or tracking cookies, it doesn't show a cookie consent banner.
Service providers
We use these providers to run the site. They process data only to provide their service to us:
- Railway: application hosting
- Cloudflare: content delivery, security, images, file storage, and web analytics
- Supabase: database and account sign-in
- Resend and our email delivery provider: account and notification emails
Keeping and deleting your information
We keep account information while your account exists. You can clear your history from your account page at any time. To delete your account, choose Delete account under Danger zone on your account page, or email hello@bikearchive.org from the address you signed up with. We delete your profile, history, saved items, and settings and sign you out on every device. Your comments and reviews either stay up with your name removed or are deleted too, whichever you choose.
You can download a copy of your information with Export my data on your account page, or email us to get a copy or to correct it.
Children's privacy
Bike Archive is a general-audience site. You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, and if we learn that an account belongs to someone under 13, we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, we'll update the "Last updated" date above.
